'The Departed' takes home the biggest prizes of the Oscars

He finally won. In his fifth nomination for Best Director, Martin Scorcese finally took home his first Oscar for The Departed.

His film, a remake of the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs, also won Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, and Film Editing. Scorsese was presented the award by three of his closest director friends, Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, and George Lucas.

In the only true upset of the night (if you consider the Las Vegas odds) was Alan Arkin's Best Supporting Actor win for Little Miss Sunshine.

Writer-director Guillermo del Toro's Spanish-language horror-fantasy Pan's Labyrinth also won an impressive three trophies.
